How to clean your silk ties

It is a common misconception that you can't use hydrogen peroxide on silk, when in fact it is usually one of the best spot and stain removers. To be on the safe side, you can test a patch of fabric along the seam on the back side of the fabric by soaking a cotton ball in the solution, then rubbing it along the fabric to see if any colors come off, or if it fades.

Make a mixture of water and hydrogen perioxide in a bowl or bucket, depending on how big or how many items you want to soak, then let the item(s) soak in the solution until you can visibly see when the spot or stain is gone. For some extra cleaning, I like to mix a scoop of Oxyclean, or similar product from the dollar store, into the mixture as well. Remove and rinse, then hang to dry. If the fabric is machine washable, it is a great idea to wash normally after the soaking process.
