Cleaning Your Garbage Disposal- 3 Easy Tips

1. Citrus

Instead of tossing orange peels (or grapefruit, lime, or lemon) into the trash, place a few pieces of peel into your garbage disposal, and run water down the drain, as you turn on your disposal.

The roughness of the peels helps clean the blades, and the citrus oils are great for freshening things up.

2. Ice

Put a handful of ice cubes into the garbage diposal, turn the water on, and let it run for 1-2 minutes. This can help remove gunk from the blades and get rid of odor-causing food particles.

3. Baking Soda and Vinegar

Sprinkle some baking soda (about 1/4-1/2 a cup) down the garbage disposal.

Pour about a cup of vinegar down the disposal, and watch the ingredients to foam and bubble.

Allow this mixture to sit 5-10 minutes. Then, run hot water down the disposal as it is running to flush everything.
